Why This Program Exists

The World Needs Systems Leaders

The most urgent global challenges — climate change, biodiversity loss, economic development, and social inequality — are deeply interconnected.

Future leaders must learn to think — and lead — across disciplines. GSLP develops not just sustainability knowledge, but the judgment, resilience, and voice to drive meaningful change. Sustainability is treated not as a single subject, but as a complex, interconnected system where every decision has consequences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know你想知道的都在这里

Questions from students and families — answered clearly.

01 Who is this program for? +

GSLP is designed for motivated high school students who are curious about global challenges and interested in exploring sustainability across multiple disciplines.GSLP

Students from diverse academic backgrounds are welcome — including environmental science, computer science and AI, economics, public policy, and media and design. Curiosity and initiative matter more than prior experience.

02 Do students need a background in environmental science? +

No. The program is interdisciplinary and welcomes students from many academic backgrounds. Students explore sustainability through areas such as:不需要。

  • Ecology and biodiversity
  • Technology and data science
  • Economics and entrepreneurship
  • Public policy and governance
  • Media and storytelling
03 What makes this program different? +

Most programs focus on classroom learning or short-term activities.

  • Real-world field environments — not simulated
  • Interdisciplinary sustainability systems thinking
  • Student-led projects, not pre-packaged activities
  • Mentorship from active practitioners and researchers
04 What will students produce? +

Students develop a Passion Project tailored to their interests.

  • A research paper (SCI journal or international conference)学术论文(SCI期刊或国际会议)
  • A multimedia or documentary project
  • A sustainability innovation proposal
  • A data analysis or policy report
05 Is the Kenya expedition required? +

The program has two tracks that can be taken separately or combined:

  • Track A — Research & Passion Project (hybrid mentorship, 3–9 months)轨道A — 研究与Passion Project(混合导师辅导,3–9个月)

We strongly recommend combining both tracks. The Kenya expedition is where classroom ideas meet living ecosystems — students conduct real field surveys, engage with local communities, and work alongside conservation professionals in one of the world's most biodiverse landscapes. This direct experience is what makes GSLP projects genuinely unique, and what sets our alumni apart in university applications.

06 What level of English is required? +

The program is conducted primarily in English. Many of our students are bilingual and come from international or multilingual learning environments. Students should be comfortable with:项目主要以英语进行。

  • Participating in group discussions
  • Understanding basic academic materials
  • Communicating their ideas in English

Mentors will support students throughout. The focus is on curiosity and learning — not perfect language skills.

07 What safety measures are in place for Kenya? +

Student safety is the highest priority. Field activities are conducted with experienced conservation professionals and local partners. Measures include:

  • Structured field supervision at all times
  • Professional guides and researchers
  • Planned accommodations and transport
  • Emergency support protocols

Detailed safety guidelines are shared with families before departure.

08 How selective is the program? +

The program maintains small cohorts to ensure meaningful mentorship and field experience. Students are selected based on:项目保持小规模队列,确保导师辅导和野外体验的质量。

  • Curiosity and genuine motivation
  • Interest in sustainability or global challenges
  • Willingness to engage in real-world learning

The goal is to build a cohort of students who are excited to explore and collaborate — not to screen for academic credentials alone.

09 How does this support university applications? +

The program helps students develop a meaningful, coherent academic narrative. Instead of collecting activities, students create a project that reflects genuine curiosity and intellectual depth.

Alumni have been admitted to Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, and UCLA. However, the primary goal is learning and genuine exploration — strong applications are the result, not the starting point.

10 How do students apply? +

The application process is straightforward:

  • Submit an online application
  • Short interview conversation with the program team
  • Enrollment confirmation and project preparation
  • Begin mentorship and project development
  • Optional: Kenya field expedition

Cohort sizes are limited — students are encouraged to apply early.
